Book Releases & Reviews: April 20, 2021

Our spread of April 20, 2021 new book releases are a great look at the expanses of YA from contemporary romance to historical thrillers.

She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen

4/5 stars

An adorable enemies-to-lovers YA novel about a basketball player who winds up fake dating her arch-nemesis–and the most popular girl in school–to make her ex-girlfriend jealous. Of course, they both catch feelings along the way. I liked how vulnerable and messy the characters were. They made so many mistakes and grew from them. A fun, tropey read that put a sappy smile on my face.

The Forest of Stolen Girls by June Hur

4/5 stars

Sisters in Joseon-era Korea investigate their detective father’s disappearance and a slew of missing girls in this evocative historical thriller. Engaging and full of so many fascinating historical details. Definitely has me eager to read Hur’s first book, The Silence of Bones, even sooner now. And decidedly one of the most beautiful covers I’ve ever seen.

TW: sex trafficking, kidnapping, murder

Other April 20, 2021 book releases we’re excited to see out in the world today: In Deeper Waters by F.T. Lukens, Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli, The Key to You and Me by Jaye Robin Brown, and Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart.
